I. Rewrite each of the sentences using these words in such a way that it is as similar as possible to the original sentence: stay the course, grow up, grow away from, be here to stay, a bit, grow into, go to bits, bit by bit, grow on, do one's bit. If necessary, make some changes of the forms of the verbs.
Example: I may go to work overseas
Thinking; I'm thinking of going to work overseas.

1. He began having a less close relationship with his parents.

2. The coat is too long now, but she'll become big enough for it.

3. His music is difficult to listen to, but after a while it becomes more pleasing.

4. I wish you'd stop behaving childishly.

5. I'm rather tired.

6. He's improving his English little by little.

7. If you want to be successful, try doing your share (=part) of work that needs to be done.

9. He's very hard-working. He doesn't give up in spite of difficulties.

10. Do you think coloured hair will be recommended by fashion-makers, or will the fashion change again?

II. There are informal phrases, used mainly in conversations, not in writings. Match the phrase with the definition.

III. Rewrite the sentences by opening the brackets and replacing the phrases in the brackets with the following words: kick off with, start the ball rolling, get going, get cracking, hit the road;

1. (To open the concert) the band (first performed) a remix of "Let's My People Go".

2. (I've put all the material in the classroom, and now there's a mess. Start cleaning right away).

3. (Let's start going immediately) because we are late.

4. Last year I (started my journey) to San Francisco (suddenly and without much planning).

5. Once the speaker had finished nobody spoke, so Mark asked the first question (to make people (= encourage them) take part in a discussion).
